The three Action-Musicals during Olympic Period

The Chinese Action-Musical Festival was in Beijing from july11th to August 23rd.Three Action-Musicals was performed during this Festival. Tang Concubines, Monkey King and Terracotta Warriors. All the three shows were premiered in Beijing for the first time.
Tang Concubines focused on the glamour and impact of women in the Tang Dynasty and went to great heights of visual splendor through costumes, scenic design and amazing action. This fantastic Action-Musical ran at the Century Theater from 2008, July 11th -26th during Olympic Period and welcomed by the both domestic and abroad. It was unveiled in North America in 2006 and was hailed as “shock and awe entertainment” by Canada’s The Globe and the Mail. Tang Concubines made further history for Chinese shows in the international arena by winning two Canadian Dora Awards for Musical Theater in 2006 in the categories of Best Choreography and Best Costumes Design.
Terracotta Warriors, Cast of 80performing artists, Hundreds of epic costumes over 20 monumental set changes and eye-popping Kongfu definitely proved what exactly world’s most popular Action-Musical is.
Monkey King ,The very first Chinese Rock-Musical Monkey King ran at the Beijing Exhibition Theater from 2008, Aug. 9th to 17th, Based on the story of Sun Wukong from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, a half-human, half-monkey warriors who ventures to India with his monk friend to save Buddhist Sutras. Monkey King is the seventh Action-Musical produced by Sight, Sound & Action. Specially conceived to commemorate the Beijing Olympic Games, this show is China’s first “Rock Musical” designed for family audiences. Inspired by the Chinese literary classic Journey to the West, the story is adapted so that people of all cultures can enjoy the spectacular variety of characters in their adventuresome pursuit of truth. This newest and largest-scale production of Sight, Sound & Action delighted audiences with new fusion-choreography, new Chinese rock-style music, and new surrealistic art direction. The show was guaranteed to provide an entirely new theatrical experience.
